Heart of Australia

This is one of those places in Australia that you have visit. The iconic heart of Australia! It is just really hard to explain the feeling you get when you lay your eyes on this incredible landmark. Most people describe it as ‘just a rock in a desert’ but it is so much more and hard to explain the feeling you get when you see it for the first time. We can completely understand how the Aboriginal people see it as such a sacred site. We feel privileged that we are also able to experience this.

Every night we ventured down to watch the sunsetting on the rock and watched as those incredible colours changed right before your eyes. We did the same at sunrise, ventured out early in the freezing cold to get a full appreciation of its beauty. You can walk around the base of the rock or you can do what we did and hire some bikes, which you can do straight from the visitor centre. As a family of 6 it cost us around $225 for all our bikes and a toddler seat for our youngest. It was 100% worth it and so glad we did this. A standard bike (Age 11+) - $50, Kids Bikes - $25, Tag-A-Long - $25 and toddler seats (Age 1 – 4) - $20. Our boys loved this and you get to see the rock from a whole different perspective at your own Pace and time.

We also visited Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). This place is just as breathtaking and has some stunning walks that take you through the heart of them.

We stayed at the Ayres Rock Campground in the overflow section as all the sites were booked well in advance. The overflow is a big dirt area with no power or water and a short walk to amenities. The price was $30.00 per night. The campground is in the same area as the resort which has an IGA and other dining options.
