CAPE YORK

Untamed Frontier

Cape York is an adventure of a life time. It’s an untamed frontier region dotted with rugged national parks, pristine waterways and secluded beaches. This is the Tip of Australia, located in Far North Queensland and is a pilgrimage of sorts for 4WD enthusiasts. What appeals to us is its pure remoteness, natural beauty and its incredible wildlife.

We spent 9 days exploring this region and we would do it all again. You drive over hundreds of kms of corrugated roads, through river crossing and vast plains. There is two ways you can tackle Cape York. You can drive straight up the PDR (Peninsula Development Road) which is graded throughout the year or you can take the 4WD tracks like the Old Tele Track for some real adventure. What awaits you at the end is a simple sign stating you are standing at the most northernmost tip of Australia. It’s just a simple sign but the feeling of accomplishment is so rewarding when you stand next to it. You can see the same feeling of joy on all the other travellers faces when they also reach the sign.
