ISLAND ADVENTURES

Moreton Island

The Gem of South East Queensland.

This island is known as "The Gem of South East Queensland" located only 40 kilometres north east of Brisbane. Moreton Island is the third largest sand island in the world and being the perfect spot for a weekend getaway.

There are heaps of different camping options, even a resort and holiday villas on the island so there is literally something for everyone and every budget. It is definitely a must visit if you get the chance. We have stayed at the resort and also camped with both options offering a completely different experience. The Tangalooma Resort offers a wide range accommodation options from small rooms to deluxe villas that will fit the whole family. The main attraction this resort is known for is the Dolphins that visit its shores every day. As a guest of the resort you get the chance to feed them which is a wonderful experience.

We camped at the Wreck’s campground which is right where the ferry lands. We also chose this spot so we can spend as much time snorkelling as possible as the Tangalooma Wrecks are directly off the beach from there.

The island is almost completely sand with no roads, so a 4WD is needed if going further than walking distance from the ferry landing points. Don’t worry if you don’t have a 4WD but want to check out more of the Island as you can hire 4WD’s over there or book a tour. There are so many beautiful gems to visit if driving around the island including champagne pools, blue water lagoon, the Moreton lighthouse just to name a few. There is also heaps of land and water activities and of course make sure you take over some snorkelling gear with you as the Wrecks is a must do.
