ISLAND ADVENTURES
Daydream Island
Spectacular honeymooners retreat.
Daydream Island is known as one of the Whitsundays most spectacular holiday spots.
The resort reopened this year after being closed due to severe damage after Cyclone Debbie tore through the Airlie Beach region in March 2017. For the past 24 months it has undergone million-dollar renovations. We had heard mixed reviews about visiting Daydream Island but decided to check it out for ourselves for a few hours on our way back from Hamilton Island.
Now it's absolutely no doubt stunning and the detail around the place is beautiful, however would I visit again with kids? I'm not too sure!! Although there were quite a few kids on the Island and they do direct the place at honeymooners and families (which I’m not sure really go together). Now this is only our own personal feelings, other people have liked it for kids but we felt like it wasn't a place to go if you have kids.
The living reef was good but the underwater observatory was only open for 2 hrs a day between two time frames unless you want to pay extra money to snorkel or feed the fish.
The surroundings and pools are beautiful but they had rules in the pool area like no jumping and no shouting which we realised straight away we were in the wrong place with 4 active boys. The beach surrounding is dead coral and the water with sharp rocks so you can't really swim off the island.
I am glad we checked it out for ourselves as it was on our list of places go. Maybe we will be back one day but when the boys are older.
