KAKADU

So much Culture

Kakadu is a Heritage-listed National park in the Northern Territory of Australia, a 3-hour drive east of Darwin. Filled with cascading waterfalls, awesome hikes, beautiful swimming holes, aboriginal rock art, crocodiles and so much culture. It is Australia's largest national park covering almost 20000 square kilometres.

Our first stop was at the Bowali Visitor Centre where you pay your Park fees. For us it was $100 for a family 2x adults, 4x kids for up to 7 days. We spent 4 nights in Kakadu in total, 2 nights at Jabiru Lodge where we watched the beautiful sunset at Ubirr Rock. The older boys did the Burrungkuy Rock Art tour and we checked out the famous Cahills Crossing which takes you over to Arnhem Land.

Our second night was spent at Cooinda Lodge (about 38 mins south of Jabiru) where we visited Jim Jim Falls. With its towering stone escarpments, plunging waterfall and an amazing but super freezing cold swimming hole. It’s only a 900-metre track from the carpark to the falls but it does get tricky climbing over large rocks but the boys managed really well and loved exploring.

Our last stop was just outside of Kakadu National Park. We stayed the night at the Mary River Roadhouse (about an 1hour and 25 minutes south from Cooinda) from here we explored Gunlom Falls (in Kakadu). Wow this place was high on the bucket list and did not disappoint. The climb was short but very rocky and steep up to the top but your rewarded by this unforgettable natural infinity pool with views of Kakadu.

This place was truly magical, we loved our time in Kakadu!
