GREAT BARRIER REEF TOURS
Sunlover — Moore Reef
Cairns
This is about a 2hr boat ride departing Cairns and has a stopover at Fitzroy Island to pick up more passengers. The boat has 3 levels to sit on and I suggest you get as low as possible and towards the back of the boat. It can get very rough and the day we went was like nothing we have experienced before. If you get sea sick I strongly suggest you get yourself some tablets to assist. I swear all the overseas tourist had no idea how rough the boat ride can be. It wasn’t pretty to watch!
The boat pulls up to a huge Pontoon which sits on the edge of the reef. The pontoon has everything! Waterslide, toilets, snorkelling platforms, glass bottom boat, semi-submersible vessel, seawalker helmet dive platform and so much more.
The Moore reef itself is beautiful and I suggest you try the guided snorkelling tour which takes you away from the main area to see heaps of beautiful coral and a better chance to see marine life which the guide will point out. For us the main attraction was Wally! He is a friendly Maori Wrasse that loves to come in for a photo. He is very inquisitive and our boys couldn’t get enough of following Wally around.
For us this tour was just way to busy. For first time snorkelers though it is probably ideal.
